Diamond Carat and Sizes
The carat is a unit used of the masses for measuring gems and pearls, and it is 200 milligrams. Diamonds are sold by the carat too (ct) and they should not to be confused with karat (kt), which refers to gold quality in the Unites States. Carat refers to weight and therefore the size of a diamond.
One carat is divisible into 100 points. Therefore a diamond weighing 50 points is half a carat. Size is the most obvious factor in determining the value of a diamond. But two diamonds of equal size can have very different values, depending on the diamond cut, diamond clarity and diamond colour.
